Canelo vs Saunders: Crunch Time
Saul “Canelo” Alvarez takes on Avni “Mr Robot” Yildirim on 27th February in his first bout of 2021 but the matchup that is on the tip of boxing fans tongues is Canelo vs Billy Joe Saunders and for good reason. The Brit has an unbeaten record of 30-0 with some notable wins against the likes of Chris Eubank Jr and former IBF World Middleweight champion David Lemieux. With Canelo potentially taking care of Yildirim on 27th February a fight between both Saunders and Canelo potentially could be made on May 2nd or May 8th, with talks already going on between both camps. In recent interviews, Billy Joe has stressed how badly he wants this fight and believes he can conquer the pound for pound king. Saunders said, “Canelo has never fought a gypsy before, we have something inside of us no one else has” and is adamant his background is going to make it very hard for Canelo to have his hand raised in May. On the flip side, Canelo’s resume speaks for its self. 54 Wins with 1 defeat and that defeat being to Floyd Mayweather who at the time was the King of Boxing. Canelo is unbeaten in 6 years and his latest win came from destroying former Ring Magazine Champion and fellow Brit Callum Smith and is looking to make Saunders another victim with his ruthless power and ferocious footwork. My prediction for this fight is controversial but I personally think it will be a draw, with both men cancelling each other out with making one another miss, as both boxers are notorious for their movement and reflexes in the ring. I think the fight will be very much a game of chess and a mental battle between both fighters. The fight is expected to be announced after Canelo's fight on February 27th and will most likely take place in Las Vegas at the Raiders Stadium.
