NFL MOCK DRAFT 1ST ROUND
The NFL draft is an optimistic time for the worse teams in the league as they get higher draft picks than the better teams therefore more likely to select the better players.
This is my 2021 NFL mock draft 1st round- this mock draft will be without trades.
1- Jacksonville Jaguars.
Trevor Lawrence QB Clemson-
No brainer. Lawrence is a slaw dunk pick, the best QB prospect possibly ever! He has won a national championship, and has thrown for 10,098 yards in 3 years since becoming the starter. He's also a dual threat QB and is very mobile, only slight concern is he is having surgery on a non throwing shoulder and is expected to rehab for 4 months.
2- New York Jets.
Zach Wilson QB BYU-
This is a very interesting pick because the Jets have a young QB in Sam Darnold. However due to poor coaching he hasn't really developed into the good Qb everyone said he would be. So.. under a new HC in Saleh and 1 year GM in Douglas I think the Jets will take the 2nd best QB in this draft Zach Wilson.
3- Miami Dolphins.
Penei Sewell LT Oregon.-
Again this is a very interesting spot for the Dolphins. They finished 10-6 just missing out on the playoffs, they acquired this pick in a trade with the Houston Texans. They could go for a weapon for their 2nd year QB Tua Tagovailoa, but i think they need to protect him and hopefully a weapon falls to their 2nd 1st round pick. Sewell is a very good prospect who had an incredible season two seasons ago (he opted not to play this season due to covid).
4- Atlanta Falcons
Justin Fields QB Ohio State-
The Atlanta Falcons haven't been the same since maverick OC Kyle Shanahan left for San Francisco. QB Matt Ryan has been poor since his MVP season and is getting into his late 30’s. With a new HC in Arthur Smith he may elect to build for the future in a very strong QB draft and select Fields who lit up the college football scene with his mobility and his good arm talent. He will probably sit for one or two years like Mahmomes or Aaron Rodagers did (and look how well they turned out!).
5- Cincinnati Bengals
Ja’marr Chase WR LSU
The Bengals need to help their hometown hero Joe Burrow out with this pick, and with the best offensive lineman off the board, i think the next obvious pick is to reunite Burrow with his favourite weapon in his historic 2019 college season. Chase has elite speed, elite hand and of course a connection to Burrow. In Burrows' only year as starter at LSU he threw to Chase 84 times for 1,780 yards, Chase also opted out of this past season due to COVID.
6. Philadelphia Eagles
Devonta Smith WR Alabama
One of the most infringing teams to watch this offseason, they have just traded Carson Wentz, their former QB for a future 2nd round pick and a 3rd round pick this year, so by all accounts young dynamic QB Jalen Hurts will be their starter. Taking this into consideration I think they will take the best player in the last college season (the winner of the Heisman trophy) Devonta Smith who had 1,856 yards and 23 touchdowns. He has very good size as he is 6ft1, however it is his frame and build that concern me as he is very skinny and many scouts predict that he will get injured when coming up against bigger players.
7. Detroit Lions
Micah Parsons LB Penn State-
The Lions have traded their former number 1 pick QB Stafford for another number 1 pick QB Goff, and under a new regime with kneecap biting Dan Campbell i think the Lions will be silly not to use this pick on a glaring whole which is Linebacker. Parsons despite off the field issues is a very very good prospect and can work perfectly as a linebacker in the NFL as he possess great awareness and good speed, in the last season he had 52 solo tackles, 5 sacks and 4 forced fumbles.
Trey Lance QB North Dakota State-
The Panthers have Qb Teddy Bridgewater but after so bad QB play they have an option to move on from him or get him to mentor someone for a year or two. I think they should decide to do that and pick one of the best QBs in this class Trey Lance who threw for 2,786 yards, 28 touchdowns, 0 Ints and completed 66.9 percent of his passes. He is also mobile, running for 1,325 yards and 14 touchdowns. This year due to COVID he only was able to play in one game and he threw for 2 tds, 1int and completed 50% of his passes. These are some incredible stats!
Patrick Surtain CB Alabama-
After AJ Bouye got released Denver needs a new CB, and Surtain is the best corner in this draft class, he has a few interceptions this year and many tackles, helping lead “Bama” to the national college playoffs. He suits Vangio’s system perfectly. He is a very tall CB standing at 6ft2.
Rashawn Slater OT Northwestern
The Cowboys have to protect their QB Dak Prescott. After his very serious leg injury he needs a good o-line, Slater is one of the best prospects in this draft and he can play anywhere in the oline and the Cowboys need a player who is very versatile.
11. New York Giants-
Gregory Rousseau Edge Miami-
Rousseau is by far the best edge rusher in this draft and the Giants desperately need help at this position. He is a very big player so it fits the trend of the GM Gettleman draft “hog-mollies”. In his last season he had the joint 2nd most sacks in the conference with 15.5.
12. San Francisco 49ers.-
Caleb Farley CB West Virginia-
A year after the Superbowl loss the 49ers finished 6-10. This was due to the majority of their team being injured, Nick Bosa tore his ACL along with several other key players, with the best QBs off the board i think the 49er team, led by maverick Kyle Shanahan will take Caleb Farley. He is a very very good mid sized QB and he will fill the Richard Sherman sized hole in the defence.
13. LA Chargers
Kyle Pitts TE Florida
Justin Herbert and the best TE in this class, look out Chiefs, there is another contender in the AFC West. Pitts is an elite prospect and may even be the one of the best TE in the NFL before he has caught a pass! His size is frightening, his agility is epic and of course his blocking is brilliant. If Hunter Henry leaves to Free Agency this will be a perfect fit and even if he doesn’t the Chargers will have two of the top TE in the league!
14. Minnesota Vikings
Christain Darrisaw OL Virginia Tech
With a strong o line already the vikings can save some money by releasing Reiff and taking Darrisaw. Darrisaw fits perfectly into the Minnesota Vikings zone blocking system.
He is a monster of a player 6’4 and he is very agile.
15. New England Patriots
Mac Jones QB Alabama
The New England Patriots need a QB after Tom Brady left and Cam Newton failed to impress. Mac Jones is a very solid QB. Starting for 1 and a half years He has thrown for 6,003 yards in that time. Having 56 touchdowns to 7 ints. He has completed 74.3 percent of his throws, he is not a mobile Qb at all however he is very accurate and he is a winner leading Alabama to another National Championship victory this year. “Bama” HC Saban is good friends with the best coach of all time, Bill Belichick, and many players believe Jones can be the next big thing at the NFL level.
16 Arizona Cardinals
Kwity Paye, EDGE, Michigan
One of the reasons the Cardinals struggled this season was due to the lack of consistency in their pass rush. Their defence is also getting older, so i think Paye would be a perfect fit for the Arizona team.
17. Las Vegas Raiders
Christian Barmore DL Alabama-
This is a Jon Gruden player if there is ever one! Big, strong, fast. He is a very good pass rusher and he would fit into the Raiders system and they need defensive help. He is gifted in rushing the passer and he has got a very good rush defence.
18. Miami Dolphins
Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, OLB, Notre Dame
This is a good pickup for the dolphins, they need help at the linebacker spot, additionally Kyle Van Noy isn’t getting any younger. Koramoah is the perfect modern line-backer because of his speed, size and agility. He's a perfect fit in Flores' defence.
19. Washington Football Team.
Jaylen Waddle WR Alabama-
One of the best receivers falls to Washington. This would help their future QB in helping out their receiving core. This may also improve their star man Mclaurin. He helped Tua in his season with him and helped Mac Jones win a national Championship this season, some scouts rank him higher than Heisman winner Smith.
20. Chicago Bears
Rashod Bateman WR Florida-
If current WR Allen Robinson leaves the next QB in Chicago needs weapons and i think the best player left is Bateman. My NFL player comparison is Kenny Galladay. He is rapid and has very very good hands as well as being agile.
21. Indianapolis Colts
Alijah Vera-Tucker OL USC
The colts need someone to fill in the big shoes of Castonzo who just retired. Tucker is a very good prospect and like many of the other OL prospects can play anywhere across the front 5. He is naturally a guard but can play tackle as he has done in previous games for USC.
22. Tennessee Titans
Joseph Ossai, EDGE, Texas
The titans struggled to rush the passer this season and with Clowney possibly leaving they need a new exciting player. Ossai is perfect for this as he is very fast, agile and very very dominant. He fits in very well with Vrabels defence.
23. New York Jets (from Seattle Seahawks)
Kadarius Toney, WR, Florida
Toney is a very very quick slot receiver, who can make massive plays.
Look for him to work in a similar fashion to Emaneul Sanders when the 49ers went to the Super Bowl. This is relevant because Saleh and many of his coaches work for the 49ers that year!
24. Pittsburgh Steelers:
Sam Cosmi, OL, Texas
The Steelers got off to a great start this season going 11-0 then losing multiple games, then getting humiliated in the playoffs by their arch rivals the Cleveland Browns. Big Ben is going to need protection and with their ageing O-Line Comsi is a great tackle prospect.
25. Jacksonville Jaguars (from Los Angeles Rams):
Ronnie Perkins, EDGE, Oklahoma
The new look Jacksonville side will need help to bring back “Sacksonville” the team that went to the AFC championship game. This is a good pick because it will pair with another explosive defensive edge player in Josh Allen who is yet to break out. Could Perkins help Allen breakout and become the star defensive player I think he can become?
26. Cleveland Browns
Eric Stokes, CB, Georgia
The Browns need to help Denzel Ward who is one of the best in the league. But for all his dominance he needs someone to compliment him. Stokes is a big fast physical corner, he is very aggressive and leads to him dominating receivers at a high level
27. Baltimore Ravens:
Wyatt Davis, OG, Ohio State
The Ravens need to give some protection to their golden goose in dual threat QB Lamar Jackson. The Ravens need a guard, and Davis is one of the top players at the position, his size compliments the other pieces in the Ravens OL and will help with in the dominant run game and the pass game.
28. New Orleans Saints
Rondale Moore, WR, Purdue
With their star receiver getting injured it just highlights the need for another weapon for the Saints potential new QB. Moore is the best player left and his speed is his best asset to create separation.
29. Green Bay Packers
The Packers never take a receiver in the first round so I don't think they will be here. I think they will take LB Moses, he has everything you want from a linebacker, speed, strength, agility and good quickness. The only thing to worry with Moses is that he had a knee injury that took him out for a season.
30. Buffalo Bills
Zaven Collins, LB Tulsa
With their solid LB potentially moving on in Milano i think this pick is the perfect time to move on. Collins is a massive linebacker with a very big wingspan and good range pairing with his elite instincts make him a perfect fit for the AFC East champs.
31. Kansas City Chiefs
Jalen Mayfield, OT, Michigan
The Chiefs got straight up bullied in the Superbowl. Their guards both being injured i think now is a good time not only to add depth but a time to also improve the starting positions. Mayfield is a great prospect who has Smooth feet, strong hands, and natural athletic ability, which make him perfect for an Andy Reid system.
32. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Patrick Jones II, Pittsburgh EDGE
With Super Bowl Hero Shaq Barrett’s future being questionable the Bucs could take Jones fresh off 9 sacks in his season. He has very very good speed, agility awareness and power ( he's 6’4) this is a Bruce Arians pick as he likes big players on his defence.
