Triller wins purse bids for Lopez vs Kambosos Jr
Ryan Kavanaugh’s Triller made a huge statement in the world of boxing yesterday by winning the purse bids for Teofimo Lopez vs George Kambosos Jr. Triller won the rights with an astonishing $6 million offer with Top rank and Matchroom putting in respectable bids of $2.3 million and $3.5 million respectively . To be exact, the mesmerising offer Triller bid was $6,018,000, therefore meaning Lopez will rack in just under $4 million with the challenging Aussie Kambosos Jr taking the remainder at just over $2 million.
Rumours have been going around that the world title clash could share a card with Jake Paul vs Ben Askren which takes place on April 17th in Atlanta. Personally, I think that is crazy and believe the fight should be it’s own main event given the prosperity of the match up between Lopez (16-0 12 KO’s) and Kambosos Jr (19-0 10 KO’s). Triller’s only event was back in November with an exhibition bout between two of boxing’s greatest, Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr.
Bob Arum of Top Rank and Lopez’s promoter was fuming at Eddie Hearn and Matchroom as he said in an interview “Hearn lost and p***ed us off at the same time. He better watch out the next time he goes to purse bid when fighters have no connection to ESPN/Top Rank. We'll jam a bid up his ass”. Arum also classed the bout as “not a major fight”
In my opinion people like Triller are ruining Boxing by putting these ridiculous ‘YouTube fights’ on just so they can rein in a massive pay check. I understand it boosts fighters' profiles with it all bringing in a different audience, but they are not fights us fans want to see and makes a mockery to the sport of boxing.
