UFC Fight Night – Brunson vs Holland - Preview

Tai Tuivasa vs. Harry Hunsucker: The main card begins in the heavyweight division with UFC newcomer Harry Hunsucker taking on the dangerous Tai Tuivasa. Tuivasa will be looking to continue his success from his only fight in 2020, a win over Stefan Struve, with a win over a short notice opponent. With a 90% knockout win ratio, I suspect Tuivasa will go headhunting early and look for another KO. Hunsucker will need to avoid the power shot and look for a takedown where he will be able to utilise his superior ground skills.

My prediction: Tuivasa by KO

Song Kenan vs. Max Griffin: An exciting bout in the welterweight division between two fighters that like to stand and trade. Song Kenan will be looking to extend his 2-fight win streak into 2021 which he will hope will be more of an active year as he’s only fought twice in the past 2 calendar years. Max Griffin will be looking to put together his first win streak in the UFC since his debut in 2016. To do this he will need to use his 4.5-inch reach advantage to frustrate Song and keep him at distance. I think he will look to out-strike Song and look to finish to fight late or win a decision. However, I think that Song will be very aggressive and look to start fast and put Griffin on the back foot.

My prediction: Kenan by KO

Adrian Yanez vs. Gustavo Lopez: Another exciting matchup in the bantamweight division with a clash of styles on display. Adrian Yanez will look to add to his 7 knockout wins and add to his current 5-win streak. Gustavo Lopez will be looking to derail the momentum of Yanez and upset the odds, to do this he will need to look for the takedowns and do his work on the ground where he has had a lot of success recently. 3 of his last 4 wins have come by submission so Yanez will need to be wary when striking that he isn’t leaving himself open for a takedown. With over 75% of their wins coming via a finish I don’t expect this to go the distance. I think that Yanez will be able to show his class and continue his climb in the UFC.

My prediction: Yanez by KO

Cheyanne Buys vs Montserrat Ruiz: Two UFC debutants are up next in the women’s strawweight division. With only two losses between these two fighters, despite being early in their professional mixed martial arts careers, shows that they are both highly skilled. Cheyanne Buys is the biggest favourite on the main card and I expect that she will show why she is highly rated. At only 25 years old she has shown that she has what it takes to grind out victories with 80% of her wins coming by decision she will look to wear out her opponent. I think that Buys will be able to use her reach advantage and continue with her impressive run.

My prediction: Buys by DEC

Derek Brunson vs. Kevin Holland: The main event of the night sees the middleweight veteran Derek Brunson come up against the rising star Kevin Holland. Brunson has enjoyed a resurgence in the middleweight division since his loss against current champion Israel Adesanya, winning 3 in a row against good opposition and will look to put the breaks on one of the fastest rising stars in the UFC. Kevin Holland has gone from relatively unknown this time last year to main event status, this is down to him winning 5 from 5 fights in 2020, making him tied for most UFC wins in a calendar year. Should he continue his form into 2021 he may be looking at a title shot at the back end of the year. Brunson will know this is his toughest opponent since Adesanya and he will need to be at his best. With Holland’s black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu it may not be a good idea for Brunson to take this fight to the floor especially after he finished Jacare Souza from his back in his last fight but he can use his wrestling background to close distance on Holland to avoid taking too much damage and then strike from the clinch. Holland will come into this fight with the same confidence he has done in his last few knowing that he can win this fight whether it goes to the ground or stays standing. I think Holland will continue his climb in the middleweight division here with a win over arguably his toughest opponent to date.

My prediction: Holland by KO
